Girlgame, my Senior Thesis in Studio Art with a Digital concentration, was completed in April 2020 and received High Honors from the Wesleyan University arts faculty. The work is an interactive website inspired by the beginnings of the post-internet era and the way it approached gendered website and web centric games.

Why are games for girls designed the way they are? Why do games for boys have to be so violent and goal-oriented? Why do boy games have to be of such higher quality than girl games? Why did I play games where I cut imaginary hair and tossed imaginary pizzas while my younger brother was shooting imaginary adult people with imaginary AK-47’s? And beyond all of that, why are the “girly” parts of the internet, in all their messy, excessive, glitchy and low-quality glory, understood as a subpar online experience when they’re so much fun?
I don’t know! But I know that I love them and I don't think the internet fosters enough of these kinds of spaces! I believe this so much, in fact, that I decided to take my own advice and curate an online space that demonstrates my love for these weird, trashy, interactive and beautiful websites! The internet lives forever and now so does my thesis!
